Raising the bar on quality and safety

In 2003, High Steel Structures' Lancaster facilities were honored with two important certifications. Our Quality Management System was registered to ISO 9001:2000, and we were recertified by OSHA as a Star VPP site. In 2004, the Williamsport facility attained registration to ISO 9001:2000 and won the Governor's Award for Excellence in Safety, the PENNSAFE Award. Williamsport became a Star VPP site in 2007.

ISO 9001:2000

ISO standards are governed by the International Organization for Standardization, a worldwide federation of national standards bodies of some 146 countries. ISO works with member countries to develop standards to improve the design, performance and safety of manufactured goods and services. ISO 9001:2000 specifies requirements for a quality management system that is effective in meeting customer requirements.

According to Russ Panico, High Steel Director - Quality, "This certification process has helped us develop new tools for continuous improvement. Conforming to the ISO standard enables greater product consistency, which will enhance value for our customers."  High Steel's quality management system was recertified to ISO 9001:2000 in 2008.

Less than 1% of companies in the U.S. are registered or certified to ISO 9001:2000.

OSHA Star VPP

High Steel's Lancaster fabrication plant was named an OSHA Star VPP site in 2000, and successfully completed the recertification process in 2003. The Williamsport fabrication plant earned the Star VPP distinction in 2007. Star VPP is OSHA's highest award to companies that have demonstrated excellence in occupational safety and health programs.

Only 1000 of the nation's seven million companies, and 91 worksites in Pennsylvania have achieved Star VPP status.
